The Village of Wabamun is accepting applications for the casual part time position of Bus Driver for the Village’s 16 passenger Handicapped Accessible bus. See job description below. Hours and trips will be as scheduled and as required only. We will be hiring a regular driver and a back up driver. Salary: $20.00 per hour. As this position is casual part time, you will not be entitled to any pension or medical benefits, but will receive four (4)% holiday pay and all other normal deductions will be subtracted from your pay. Job Purpose Summary:
The Bus Driver, under the direction of the FCSS Director, will primarily be responsible for transporting clients of various physical capabilities and locations to and from their homes or pick up point to scheduled outing destinations in an effective and safe manner. This individual will be responsible for ensuring arrival their destination on time. The Bus Driver will maintain the health and safety of the residents while transporting, loading and unloading the residents, and ensure that all provincial legislation, policies and procedures are followed while operating the vehicle.
Safely deliver residents to and from their homes or pick up points and their destinations, following the assigned time schedule. Transport residents on special excursions. Assist residents with boarding and exiting and while crossing the street while bus is stopped. Adhere to and enforce bus safety rules and standards. Comply with traffic regulations to operate vehicles in a safe and courteous manner. Resolve any conflicts in a positive, respectful and proactive manner. Complete vehicle inspections prior to departing for any trip. Complete vehicle cleanliness inspections post trip, removing any garbage. Place found items in lost and found bin or remove to designated location. Read and interpret maps, where and when required. Report any bus malfunctions or needed repairs to management. Complete all necessary paperwork as required. Other duties as assigned.
Possess a valid Driver’s License Class 2, including “Q” Airbrakes Endorsement and supply the Village with a clean Criminal Record Check and Vulnerable Sector Check. Minimum 3 years’ safe driving experience. Clean driver’s abstract. Excellent driving skills and habits. Ability to remain attentive when faced with distractions. Ability to read and interpret maps. First Aid certificate is considered an asset. Enjoys working with seniors and youth.
Interacts with public at large, including senior citizens and youth. Manual dexterity required to operate a large motor vehicle. Sitting for an extended period of time. Exposure to all weather conditions. Repetitive work. Maybe required to lift up to 50 lbs.
