The Village Council held a Committee of the Whole meeting in Council chambers on March 12, 2018 to share information with the public regarding upcoming changes to federal and provincial laws which will legalize the growing, sales and use of cannabis. In addition to Council and staff, fifteen members of the public were in attendance to see slide presentations outlining provincial regulations and Alberta Health recommendations. Sgt. Ian Gillan of the Stony Plain detachment of the RCMP was also on hand and gave a verbal presentation on enforcement of the new regulations. The sergeant, Council and administration answered a number of questions from the audience regarding growing in private residences, retail sales, licensing issues, use in multi-residential settings among other topics. This was the first step in the consultation process Village Council is undertaking in advance of amending municipal Land Use bylaws, creating public use bylaws, creating development regulations and aligning them with enforcement criteria. Council has released a survey to poll our residents as to their thoughts on potential cannabis legislation that could enacted locally. The survey has been sent to all utility customers or can be accessed through the following link
