The Wabamun & District Museum Society was established in 2007 to preserve for the public benefit, the natural, historical, industrial and cultural heritage of the Village of Wabamun and communities surrounding Wabamun Lake, from the early 1800’s to the present. The museum was officially opened in July 2009.
We are now a Recognized Museum with the Alberta Museum Association. A recognized museum is an institution that has demonstrated its commitment to public trust and service by applying to, and attaining accreditation from the Recognized Museum Program. We worked hard to complete this program and are proud to be a Recognized Museum in Alberta. Look for the Recognized Museum sign during your next visit to the Museum.
We are extremely proud of our collection of artifacts and a thank you goes out to all who have donated these wonderful objects. We are always looking for more artifacts or pictures that relate to Wabamun and area. We have ongoing projects consisting of adding to the Historical sign Walk, completing our data entry of the artifacts which includes photographing and recording the history of the artifacts. A project we would like to complete is to have a dragonfly collection to display so if anybody can catch and bring them to us we would appreciate it.
We are always in need of volunteers on the days the museum is open. If you are interested in history and would like to help please call Janice Lindsay 780-892-4707, Betty Lalonde, 780-892-3606 or Darlene Brusnyk 780-892-2251.
Our hours of operation are from Wednesday through Saturday from 1:00p.m. – 4:00 p.m. until the end of September.
We are located in the United Church building at 5140- 52 Avenue.
