Message from the Mayor: March 17, 2020
On behalf of Council, I would like to take this opportunity to update our community on Wabamun’s activities concerning COVID-19.
If you have been in the office you may have noticed we have hand sanitizer and wipes readily available for our staff. However, our supply is limited and will not last long. That said, the proper and frequent washing of hands is a simple and effective response to help minimize the spreading of the virus. While our office remains open for now, the library is closed and all nonessential committee meetings are being canceled. Council is also exploring options available to hold Council Meetings electronically.
Our programing action/response is being coordinated with the school system. As such, all programing has been suspended until further notice.
Water and Sewer services remain our critical service to the community and therefore business continuity is critical. We have back up planning in place should our staff become ill to ensure these services continue.
Parkland County provides fire services to the Village of Wabamun under agreement and they have taken the necessary steps to ensure service continuity.
Alberta Health Services has their protocols to ensure service continuity across Alberta.
As a matter of public safety, we are asking people to minimize direct contact. While for now our office remains open, utility payments can still be made using a number of options: at the local credit union, using an e-transfer to firstname.lastname@example.org or using a credit card over the phone or by using the drop box at our main office. Receipts will be sent by mail or via email if an email address is provided.
We continue to monitor what Alberta Health Services (AHS) and others are doing as actions involving containment remain the primary objective at this time. As such, we are also limiting face to face meetings externally and at our office. We are also asking the public to minimize visits to the Village office as we all do our part to assist in this global response to the COVID-19 pandemic.
Thank you for your understanding and cooperation.
Charlene Smylie, Mayor
