Mr. Rob Coon appointed as Chief Administrative Officer.
Village of Wabamun, AB – Mayor Charlene Smylie is pleased to announce the hiring of Mr. Rob Coon as Chief Administrative Officer for the Village of Wabamun, effective December 18, 2019.
“On behalf of Village Council, I’m excited to both congratulate and welcome Rob to the Wabamun team,” said Mayor Smylie. “Rob has over 25 years of solid municipal leadership experience with a demonstrated track record of success. We can be certain he will lead the Village in the right direction as we embark on the viability review with the Government of Alberta and Parkland County. We would like to thank Parkland County for their partnership and support in bringing Rob on board,” she said.
The Village has entered into a memorandum of understanding with Parkland County that will see the County share in costs associated with the CAO position.
“Parkland County Council recognizes the need for the Village to have a high level of support, ensuring the best outcomes for the community with the viability review,” said Parkland County Mayor Rod Shaigec. “Rob has the right level of experience and skill to support the discussions and ensure an appropriate risk mitigation strategy for both partners. We look forward to working together through this process. We welcome Rob to the community and wish him all the best in this new role.”
Most recently employed as Chief Commissioner at Strathcona County, Rob has also spent many years as CAO for Rocky View County, Red Deer County and Saddle Hills County.
“I am honoured to have been selected to lead the team at the Village of Wabamun. I see tremendous potential for the local community and am excited to be part of forging a new path toward the future,” Rob said. “I am looking forward to being out in the community more and meeting residents of Wabamun and to begin working with the Village Council.”
As CAO, Rob will lead the Village of Wabamun through the viability review process with the province, in a strong partnership with Parkland County. He will guide and advise Council on legislation and municipal operations, and provide information to support Council in making informed decisions.
